Today was my "Official" last day of employment. I am unemployed (retired) and now on a fixed income. So I guess I can start bitching like the rest of the old geezers. Yes I know I've already had that down for many years.
I've worked since we (me and the jungle cat) delivered newspapers for The Bakersfield Califorian at age 10 or 11. Everyday folding papers, hands black from the ink, stuffing the paper bag that went over your shoulders than riding our Schwinn 10 speed around the mean streets of "Greater Bakersfield" throwing the evening news.
Working on the farm as teens with cousin Jeff during the summer was memorable especially when he pee'd on the electric fence. 12 hour days 6 days a week. Good times.
Our parents always supported us. They would get our little butts out of bed to deliver papers or drive us 30 minutes each way at 6 am 6 days a week to be to work on the farm. As you get older you realize that those times are what makes you the person you grow up to be.
I've had a great career, making life long friendships and I worked for great bosses. I can honestly say everyone I worked for from past to present treated me great although I was a pain in the ass at times.
I never thought I would get as far as I did in law enforcement. I was lucky and a good test taker I guess. But I never forgot that it all starts with the guy or gal on the street. They are the ones who help keep us safe and keep this country free from the people who would kill you and not think twice about it. I will miss my friends and co-workers but my time has come to move on. God bless you all and I will always cherish our time together.
If you ever have contact with our two kids in LE Officer Christina Marshall SBPD or Nicholas Giese SMPD please tell them you knew their dad which will probably get a groan from them then an apology for having to put up with me :).
We are back in Quartzsite AZ tonight setting in the desert with nobody near by.
We went to dinner at Silly Al's Pizza again. Our friend Robin Weckerly (my former Avila Beach Patrol partener) recommended it. Good pizza and country music tonight. The band was very good and played some Buck Owens and Merle Haggard.
Maria just told me we're staying in "Q" till Sunday than heading home. OK with me.
