We arrived at Eugene CAT this morning. They took the coach in immediately and started the diagnosis. We had time to kill so we walked about two hours along the Willamette River bike path.
It's a beautiful area near University of Oregon. Had breakfast and then took a nap in the car at a park parking lot in Springville OR near the CAT dealer. Maria said we were homeless. I said who cares. Checked YELP for a lunch spot. Found a four star rated gastropub called Chow. Excellent food and reasonable. Chicken salad for me and mushroom sandwich for Maria.
As of 4:00 PM they still couldn't find the turbo boost problem. They checked everything and found no problems. Then a big boss (their words) named Roy from the Portland CAT office started asking the mechanic and service manager questions. He said he did not want us to leave without figuring out the problem. He headed out to the coach and started his own diagnosis. He found in the computer readout a number from sensor he didn't like. It showed a 7 when it should read 14. Everyone else including three other shops missed it.
But Roy said he wasn't sure so he called a guy he said was smarter then him on CAT engines. He confirmed this sensor "might" be the problem. So they replaced it a 5:30 PM.
So we are camped in the service yard of Peterson CAT Eugene for the night. They had nobody here to complete our bill after 5:00 PM. We have 50 amp, Direct TV and the Deadliest Catch is on. We're good..
I think we are just going to camp at every CAT Service Center all the way to Alaska.
