After a long drive (337 miles) we made it to Dawson City in the Yukon. The roads here were the worst yet. Lots of gravel, potholes and washboard bumping. Nothing fell off our coach but others were not so lucky.
Tuesday we did some touring of the city. Dawson is where the gold rush started in 1897. The streets of the city are still dirt and buildings are of the period. Lots of interesting history here.
In the evening we went to Bonanza Creek where it all started to try our luck to hit it rich. Panning of gold is hard work.
I found two pieces of gold. Not enough to cover the cost of my rubber boots.
But I got the fever (gold fever). It was fun. Kind a like a treasure hunt.
But finally us retired cops on the tour decided it was easier to sit by the mailbox at the first of the month waiting for our retirement checks.
It was a fun evening.
Dawson was one of my favorite towns we went through.
